We use Sage software in our practice because it combines desktop and cloud based systems and enables fast processing, comprehensive reporting, and prompt telephone support. As accountants these things are very important to us, but every business will have different priorities.

When choosing accounting software for your business you might consider:

  • how easy it is to use
  • whether it would be useful to be able to limit what a user can see, such as your bank balances
  • how accessible the software would be from multiple locations
  • and for cloud based software the speed of your internet connection particularly if you will want to process a large number of transactions
  • the level of support you can readily obtain from the software company. For example, many do not have telephone support and it can be very frustrating to wait 24 hours for an email response!
  • how well it will integrate when any other processes or trade specific software you may have
  • whether it is ‘Making Tax Digital’ ready
  • the cost
